Is it Christmas time yet?

I know, I know. Some of you might say it’s a little bit to early to start talking about Christmas (specially with the nice weather we’ve had in the last couple of days) but Almost Famous and Home Sweet Home got me very excited about the upcoming season so I can’t resist the temptation of talking about all the amazing things you can expect from them this year. Let the festivities begin!

Almost Famous

I hope you can now get a sense of why I’m excited for Christmas!

I might have been the only person to attend Almost Famous’ xmas showcase that hadn’t tried their Christmas burger from last year, but I can tell that this year’s version will be glorious.

If it looks messy, it’s because it will be, but every second of it will be worth it.

Wondering what’s in it? If I can recall correctly, this bad boy has a single cheeseburger, a sausage stuffing patty, buttermilk fried turkey (my absolute favourite part), creamy and some delicious BBQ sauce. As you can see, it’s topped with a sausage roll and a pig in a blanket for an extra bite or two of deliciousness.

The turkey was the best part of it, specially because it was perfectly cooked and extremely juicy. I was a bit scared that the amount of fillings was going to make this a dry burger but it was the complete opposite, actually. If you’re feeling brave (and festive), you definitely need to give it a go.

We also tried (and stacked) their sausage rolls and pigs in a blanket. Sadly, they don’t sell a skewer like the one you can see on the right (that was all for the gram!), but it was still a nice taste of what you can get with their burger (before venturing with the real deal).

Something I learned during this visit is that, if you’re planning a big party (for your office, family or friends), you have two ways to go: you can either get their sliders, which is a perfect way of feeding your guests without the mess, or you can go all in and try their festive menu. Either way works great, but I’d say you need to book quickly because these guys are always in high demand.

Home Sweet Home

After stuffing our faces at Almost Famous, we decided to walk across and taste what Home Sweet Home will be bringing to Manchester this festive season.

I’m happy to say that their mulled cider (with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream!) is going to be a favourite of mine and if you like mulled drinks and a cozy feeling, it’ll make it to the top of your list as well.

Later that same evening we also tried (and stacked, because that seems to be our theme here) their delicious chicken and waffles. Not that we hadn’t tried it before (Exhibit A), but you know me, I can’t say no to a good mouthful of fried food 😉

Finally, my highlight for Home Sweet Home’s side, was the moment when one of the servers came to us with a huge tray of chocolate chip and sea salt cookies straight out of the oven. Words cannot describe how comforting these were, but I’d pay to take a bucket of these cookies home with me (and eat them all in the walk back to the flat!). I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for these cookies during Christmas season, because my heart needs to feel this kind of joy again!

Overall, I’m incredibly happy to say that both restaurants will be having an amazing offering (and I wouldn’t expect any less from them). I think it’s safe to say that, even though we’re a little less than 3 months away from Christmas, I’m already excited to eat all these delicious dishes again!

Also, I know I’ve been MIA in social media this week but things have been a bit hectic on my side so I’m trying to balance everything as much as I can. I promise soon things will go back to normal and I’ll continue updating you guys regularly with recommendations on my favourite spots in town 🙂

Thanks for reading me, and make sure to come back next week because (hopefully) I’ll be sharing this month’s highlights!
