I know I might be a little late to the advent calendar party, but hey, I asked on Instagram (follow me, @michellelovestoeat) and you guys wanted to see my top picks for this year’s food and drink related advent calendars so let’s get started!

I know people most of the people that read me live either in the UK or in the US, so I’m going to try to provide options for at least these two countries. All of them, of course, can be found online, and even if this specific calendar isn’t available in your country, at least serves as a starting point to search for something similar that delivers to your local area.

1. Chocolates

We can’t talk about Christmas and advent calendars without mentioning this good old classic. These days, chocolate advent calendars are not just for kids and many brands decided to launch their own version of this sweet countdown. My favourites? Hotel Chocolat has a calendar for every craving, but their Chocolate Advent Calendar for Two stole my heart! Specially because that means I don’t have to share.

For my US readers, William Sonoma has an adorable advent calendar ($15.95) that fits perfectly with a classic Christmas theme and provides a daily sweet treat.

2. Cookies

If you’re not a fan of chocolate, or just want to go for something a bit different but still sweet, maybe a cookie calendar is for you! The calendar pictured above might be a bit expensive for cookies, but the piece itself can be used as decor in the upcoming years, and maybe in 2018 you can fill it with your own treats! Win-win 😉

Now, if you’re like me and you love to be the one baking the treats, there’s a Cookie Advent Cookbook (£10.99) that provides a cookie recipe for every single day and makes a really fun gift to enjoy not only during the holidays, but any other day if you’re in for a seasonal treat.

3. Coffee

The advent calendar that helps you face every day before Christmas with an amazing style and coffee from all over the world? Pact Coffee Advent Calendar. This one has a selection of 25 world class coffees to help you wake up even on Christmas morning (hey, we might need a boost to open those presents!). The best part? You can find it on Amazon and on their website.

4. Tea

And just because I know not everyone drinks coffee, I’ve also found a beautiful calendar for all my tea drinkers out there. The one pictured above is by PostTEA and it’s an amazing gift for anyone that enjoys a luxury treat.

5. Marshmallows

YES, you read that right! There’s a marshmallow advent calendar and I’m here to tell you that this is one of my favourite ideas so far. Not only I’m intrigued by the different flavours available during the countdown, but I also think it’s a genius idea and serves as a great excuse to make a hot chocolate every day until Christmas! 😉

6. Chilli

Who says Christmas is just about being sweet? My other half enjoys chilli and spicy bits in general so much that I think this would be an amazing calendar for him! The Big Chilli Advent Calendar is the perfect way for anyone to bring a little spice into their days and give a twist to a meal while still enjoying the tradition of a Christmas countdown.

7. Pork Crackling

If you’re still in a salty mood and want something savoury and fatty to make it through the first 24 days of December, you definitely should check out this gourmet pork crackling advent calendar by The Snaffling pig. I, for one, love the presentation (they have even more display options available online!) and the fact that it’s completely different from anything I’ve seen this season.

8. Fortune cookies

Anyone else gets incredibly excited when reading these after a meal or that’s just me? If you’re on my team, then definitely run and grab a fortune cookie advent calendar. I’m not sure if your fortune will be spot on for every day before Christmas but at least you’ll have a nice fun moment reading these every morning!

9. Beer

We all knew it was coming. A list of delicious advent calendars for adults couldn’t be complete without some booze (and there’s a couple more coming, so keep reading!). My favourite beer advent calendars are the ones that allow you to sample several craft beers while waiting for Christmas. This not only serves as a preparation you for your not so wild Christmas night (or NYE party later on!) but as a way to taste several brews and see which one you enjoy the most. I couldn’t pick just one, so I have three for you: there’s one by Honest Brew (pictured above), £69.90, one by Beer Hawk, £75, and one by Boozebud that offers a beer and cider alternative (available in the US!), $109.99

10. Wine

Aaaand of course we cannot talk about a boozy Christmas without some wine. This one by Virgin Wines makes a good sampler of different kinds of wines that serve as the perfect companion for your dinner, or just as an excuse to enjoy a nice glass by the end of the day. I’m sure anyone would love this one as a present, and if you don’t want to share it with anyone, make it a gift to yourself 😉

11. Sparkling Wine

Want to make your countdown even more extra? Bring out the fizz! These sparkling wines will put you in a celebration mood for the entire month and it’s a nice way to bring some extra sparkle to your table in this holiday season. There’s also a good offer on Amazon that you can get before December begins 😉

12. Gin

And because I cannot be living in Manchester and not include a Gin Advent Calendar on my list, I found this great offer on Amazon that allows you to sample a different 30ml dram of fantastic gin from the finest producers around the world every single day until Christmas. And it’s the perfect excuse to enjoy your favourite gin and tonic or just try different gin based cocktails every day.

Bonus points to Drinks by the Dram for offering a Tequila advent calendar as well 😉

Well, that’s it! I hope you enjoyed reading my recommendations on the most interesting food and drink related advent calendars that are out there for this season, and hopefully this list will inspire you to find your own way to count down until Christmas.

Please let me know if you enjoy this kind of articles that are still about food but not related to a specific restaurant or brand. I’m thinking about making this ‘eat along’ section on my blog something a bit more permanent and I’d love to hear your feedback! You can find me on Instagram (@michellelovestoeat), Twitter (@mlovestoeat), and Facebook (@michellelovestoeat).

If you decide to buy yourself an advent calendar, send me your pictures! I’ll be reposting my favourites on my Instagram stories 🙂 and also, make sure to come back on Thursday for my HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE FOR FOOD LOVERS.

Well, enough writing. Thanks for reading!

Michelle’s out.

There are some cracking ideas here. I love the choc for two one and the pork scratchings one but I’d be happy to have any of these.
