01 Jun Stone baked pizza? Yes, please!
All pizzas are beautiful and I bet most of us can agree on that. However, if we were trying to decide on the best pizza in the entire world, we can also agree that it’s probably an stone baked pizza, right?
Don’t get me wrong. You know I love all types of pizza (except, again, the ‘modern’ pizzas), but apart from that, I’ve built my own pizza a couple of times, I’ve tried ‘Orlando’s best pizza‘, and both G and I have the Papa John’s app on our iPhone (because you never know!). All of this is to say we’ve had tons of pizzas in this past couple of decades we’ve lived, although I’m completely aware that there’s even more cheesy pies to try ahead, and I’ll always live by these words: Stone baked pizza will always win over any other kind of pizza in the planet.
Now that we have accepted that, let’s talk about our latest pizza foodventure in Manchester, shall we?
You know we’re always on a mission to find an amazing pizza place anywhere we go, and even though we liked Slice, and loved Dough, we’re still looking for more places to compare and decide which is our favorite pizza place in this area (strong words, I know!). That’s why when we found a place with a big stone oven right behind the counter and a really cool vibe, we knew we were about to have some good pie.
Ply is five minutes away from where we live, and I dare to say that we’ve walked by at least 15 times since we moved to the Northern Quarter, but only on last Friday we decided it was time to give it a go. Boy, what an amazing idea!
As I said above, the vibe is really cool and, as any place on a Friday night, there were tons of people grabbing a drink after work and enjoying the cool tunes the DJ was playing (I remember him because he was incredibly excited for the whole time we were there). But that’s not what we came for!
We both ordered a pizza and decided to share half and half.
You can never go wrong with this kind of pizza. I have yet to find a place that messes up goats’ cheese and pesto on a pie.
I’m really glad to say that the sauce was incredibly rich in tomato flavour, which I really enjoy, and the pizza had enough of it, but not too much to make it soggy, which is something I try to avoid when looking for my ideal slice.
The dough was really thin, which to me is absolutely perfect, and yet it wasn’t so thin that felt crunchy. It was soft and nice, and served as the perfect base for all of the ingredients.
If you’ve been reading me for a while, you know this was G’s choice.
He’s the biggest cheese lover and absolutely fell in love (at first bite!) with this amazing pizza.
Again, the tomato sauce was rich in flavour and super fresh, which paired perfectly with the cheese combination and the soft dough.
Overall, two thumbs up for both of these pizzas. I already know we’ll be coming back for more!
However, the biggest highlight of our whole night (which is saying a lot, since both of the pizzas we had were absolutely incredible) was the dessert.
When I first read the combination of two of my favorite words in the planet, I knew my body needed this, and I promise yours does too!
Guys, the pizza dough not only serves as an amazing base for regular pizzas, it also pairs perfectly with Nutella! Also, as you can probably tell from the photo above, they add some yummy raspberries, sugar, AND MASCARPONE.
I know it might seem like I’m overreacting or that they’re paying me to say this (I promise they’re not but if you know them and they want to sponsor I post I’ll gladly do it!), but when you combine all of those ingredients into a bite, it’s the best feeling and words cannot really describe it.
The only thing I have left to say is: make yourself a favor and eat some pizza at Ply.
