Guys, we’re getting real. Our burger game is STRONG.
In case you haven’t noticed from the picture above, or from my last Manchester posts (hello, Waterhouse’s desserts!), we’re constantly on a food mission to find some amazing places around town. And by we, I mean G and I, because we don’t know many people in Manchester (if you’re in Manchester make sure to DM me or comment here! Maybe we can meet up!).
But yea, we’ve been constantly wandering around the streets and entering whatever place that catches our eye whenever we’re hungry (which is basically, all the time tbh), but this time we were on a specific search.
I’ll start from the beginning.
As you probably already know (specially if you’ve read this post and this post), I’m a big pizza lover. Pizza is love, pizza is life, pizza is everything we’ll ever need. So I gathered some information on Instagram, and based on some pictures, yelp and a recommendation from Angela (@shesabutginger), we were headed towards Rudy’s, because apparently they serve the best pizza in town. I take this claims really seriously, guys!
However, when we arrived there we were told that we had to wait at least an hour and a half. AN HOUR AND A HALF JUST TO GET A SIT. Are you serious?
I can wait 30 minutes to sit, even up to an hour if I know the place is amazing, and I’d still have to really think about waiting more than 45 minutes if I’ve never been to the place (or if I’m really hungry), but waiting at least an hour and a half sounded insane to us so we decided that Rudy’s wasn’t for us, at least not this day.
We started wandering around, heading from Ancoats towards Northern Quarter and stumbled upon a sign indicating the way to a place called ‘Almost Famous’, and I realized I’d read about that place before!
I searched on my notes and found out that Alexandra (@asg_orlando on Insta) had actually recommended me this place to get amazing burgers. That’s all we needed to seal the deal.
We went upstairs and were greeted by an amazing place with high ceilings that immediately caught my attention. We were seated right next to the window and you probably already know that’s my favorite seat because: a) I love to see the people walking by and enjoy the view, and b) Natural lighting is my favorite when it comes to food photos.
Let’s fast forward to us getting our food because you’re probably tired from reading super long posts if you read about our adventures in London!
I ordered the Super-Cali but didn’t really think it would be this big. I mean, look at the size of that burger! I’ll have to admit that I was both excited and intimidated by the size, so I still decided to give it a go.
I know this might sound outrageous but I had to help myself with a knife and a fork, because otherwise this masterpiece would have just been a whole mess. Both G and I found this to be the best way to try to get most of the ingredients in just one bite.
I ordered mine without jalapeño because I’m not really the biggest fan of spicy food, and they told me the jalapeño mayo wasn’t too spicy so I decided to keep that. I must say they did lie to me because that mayo was hot! But it was still really good and complemented all the other flavors, specially when paired with the smashed avocado, you could sense a great balance, so I’m not mad about that.
I thought eating a burger with two patties was too much, but in this specific case I think it’s completely necessary so the flavors of all the other ingredients don’t go over the flavor of the burger itself. Overall, this burger was really really good! But be advised that it’s not for everyone.
When I read the description for this burger, I immediately knew this was the one G was going to get. It just screams his name from miles away! But of course you know we both try each other’s food, so I got a bite of this beauty as well.
Chorizo and all the other meats are always a win for me (chorizo, specially chorizo). And OMG that fried mozzarella took the burger to a whole other level.
As you can see, these burgers are insane and you gotta be really hungry before you come in, because there’s no way you’ll be able to finish these if you’re just looking for something small.
The funny thing with these fries is that, when we ordered, we didn’t really plan on ordering fries but our server told us that burgers came on their own, so we might as well order some fries to share (of course there’s no way I’d have finished both my burger and these fries on my own!). I don’t really like making decisions under pressure so I just looked at G and told him with my eyes DON’T MAKE ME ORDER SOMETHING, I’LL KILL YOU, and he just took a quick glance at the menu and ordered these.
These fries weren’t bad, but they’re definitely not my favorite fries in the entire world.
Now, don’t get me wrong. It’s not that I didn’t like them, it’s just that I felt like there were too many things going on at our table, I just wasn’t ready for the amount of ingredients and toppers these fries were loaded with.
Also, I found out the hard way that these had red chillies and they were really really hot.
I think next time I’d just skip the fries and enjoy my burger. But again, that’s just me!
Overall, we had an amazing foodventure at Almost Famous and we definitely will be coming back for more! (I’ve got my eyes on a burger called “everyone’s got a gun in Texas”)
Now, after writing all of this, I want another burger. Please let me know either on Instagram (@michellelovestoeat), Twitter (@mlovestoeat) or just comment down below if there are any other burger places (or amazing food places in general) around Manchester that I can’t miss. I’d really love to know!
Also, don’t forget to subscribe (just fill the box at the end of this page, right side of the footer) to be the first one to know about my next foodventures! I promise I’m preparing something great for Saturday.
Now let’s stop this nonsense and let’s find some more food to eat!
TL;DR: Almost famous serves burgers that are insanely good but you gotta be REALLY hungry to be able to finish them. I’ll definitely be coming back.
