13 Apr Late night visit to the cutest soda fountain
So the other day I met with some foodie friends and, as you can probably imagine, we went around Orlando finding some good places to eat. We found some amazing places! We started the afternoon at Gideon’s (I had already been here before but they needed these cookies in their lives), we almost ate another bowl of pesto chicken mac n’ cheese but they didn’t have any on that day, so after some coffee and great stories, we headed to North Quarter Tavern. One could think that we would have ended our day there, right? Wrong.
Yes, I ate the biggest sandwich I’ve ever had and then I was in for dessert. We weren’t really sure of what we wanted until Michael, being the organized man that he is, showed us pictures of The Soda Fountain on yelp. Guys, we’re talking about a place that really looks like a soda fountain and serves milkshakes. I don’t think I need to add anything else.
When we got there, I fell completely in love with how cute this place was! It’s seriously worth a visit if you’re around college park just to enjoy the vibe and share a float. But since we were really in for the dessert, it was time to made the biggest decision: what are we going to order?
If you’ve been reading me for a while, you know G and I always try to get different things so we can try more things on the menu, so that’s what we did! He’s just the biggest soda lover in the entire world and I don’t think I’m exaggerating, so it made sense that he ordered a float. I just decided to stick with a classic and ordered a cookies n’ cream milkshake for myself.
G’s float was called “The Sinatra” and I have no idea why (if anyone does please share the story with me! I’m curious to know!) and it was a cream soda with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I sipped a bit because I’m not really into sodas but I still wanted to taste the combination between soda and ice cream (yes, this was our first time trying a float!). If you’re into sodas and have a sweet tooth, this is for you! I really enjoyed the combination of both sweet flavors but couldn’t really enjoy it because of the strong soda taste. I wasn’t expecting any different, but you know that I take my foodie missions very seriously! So I definitely had to try it.
G really liked it and he finished the whole thing. They even gave him a spoon to finish the ice cream, which I think was really cool, because it’s all soaked in soda and that kinda changes the flavor of the ice cream a little (and I say this in a good way). I think floats are going to be his thing from now on.
My milkshake was super yummy and sweet. I mean, if you’re not into sweets this is definitely not for you, but I am a dessert’s person so I enjoyed the whole milkshake on my own (yes, I did share with G but just some sips).
It was super creamy and you could feel the cookie chunks in it which I really enjoyed. They definitely use tons of ice cream to make these, and I think that’s what makes them so good. I really hate it when I get a milkshake and it feels kinda watery, definitely not cool.
TL;DR: Super cute place. Super creamy milkshakes. They also have floats!
