La Femme Du Fromage: Mac n’ cheese from HEAVEN
I need to start by asking a really serious question: why is mac and cheese so good for your soul?
I really mean it. Am I the only one that feels like a good plate (or box, you know I don’t judge) of mac n’ cheese can fix most of my problems?
Or at least make me forget about them for a while
I’ve never really thought of mac n’ cheese as something other than easy and quick food I can make at my own place, although I’ve seen those bites on Instagram that are becoming really popular and look amazing. If someone knows where I can grab some, please let me know!
Again, I’m loosing the battle and deviating myself from what I really wanted to write. The thing is I never though I could get “fancy” mac n’ cheese, or just mac n’ cheese that could really captivate my senses even more than regular mac n’ cheese, if that makes any sense. And then I went to East End Market.
If you’ve never been there, you should totally pay them a visit. Not only because of this post (or the mac n’ cheese) but because they have many different places and local businesses to support. Most serve amazing food or sell handcrafted goods, and the overall place has such a great vibe. G and I really enjoyed our foodventure on that side of the town.
When we went in, we were really hungry and La Femme Du Fromage caught our eye. First, because we’re big cheese lovers, and second because the place has many different chalkboards that tell you all the great goodies you can either order and eat there, or just take them home with you. When I found out that the “Mac n’ cheese of the day” was chicken pesto, I was sold.
We decided to sit outside because East End Market has a sort of garden full of plants (even succulents for sale!) and it was such a beautiful day, we really wanted to enjoy every bit of it. And we definitely did when the mac n’ cheese was ready!
They brought it to our table and you could see that they had just taken them out of the oven which, if you can’t tell from the picture, takes the mac n’ cheese from great to OUT OF THIS WORLD.
These look so great that even the people sitting in the table right next to us had to ask where did we get them, and when I told them it was chicken pesto mac n’ cheese (and not just regular mac n’ cheese), they just lost it. I’m not exaggerating when I say that these looked heavenly, and tasted even better.
I really love a good pesto sauce, and the combination between that, the bits of chicken and the cheesy macaroni was just what my tastebuds were craving. I didn’t even know I needed this until I tasted it, but now I just can’t help thinking when will we go again.
They also have a truffled mac n’ cheese that I need to try, but I just couldn’t miss the chance of grabbing some pesto chicken. Believe me when I say I did have a hard time deciding on what to order!
It’s not common for us to order the same thing, but pesto chicken sounded so good, we truly couldn’t resist it. And I’m sure that whatever mac n’ cheese of the day they have when you go will be great as well. If that doesn’t convince you, I don’t think you can go wrong with the truffled one! Because that to me sounds amazing. Anyone else shares my opinion? If not, more mac n’ cheese for us!
Finally, before we left, we paid them another visit. This time, to buy some cheese for ourselves. I was completely stuffed when I finished my plate but I knew I was going to regret not taking some cheese home, and they all looked so great I couldn’t resist it! I’m so weak, I know.
We tried like three different cheeses but we ended up getting a lamb chopper that was truly delicious. Super rich cheese flavor and it’s that sweet spot between a soft cheese and a harder one. I’m really trying not to eat it all in one sitting (and battling with G so it can lasts us at least a week).
Overall, I’d say we really loved trying this place and the food was truly amazing. The only downside is that, for mac n’ cheese, it’s a little up there in price, and the same goes for the cheese itself. You can totally get some good cheese at Trader Joe’s as well (anyone else loves TJ’s or that’s just me?) for less than half the cost, so if you’re looking for something cheap, this is not the place to go. However, if you feel like treating yourself or if money is not an issue, by all means go for it! I don’t think you’ll regret it. And if you have any good cheese recommendations, please share them! We’re always looking for some new cheeses to try.
TL;DR: Chicken pesto mac n’ cheese exists, and it’s amazing. Your tastebuds need it. That’s all I need to say.
